Dana (our go-to skin expert) is going to cover some of the most common skin types and offer up a few suggestions for how we can better customize how we take care of our skin.
If you're new to skin care all together, don't worry. A good starting point is becoming familiar with your skin type and what works best for you! Being more aware will help you select the right kinds of products to keep your skin at the top of its game.
There are five skin types - sensitive, dry, normal, combination, and oily. There are also multiple skin conditions that any of the five skin types may experience. Examples of skin conditions would be acne, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, etc.
Looking for the best sunscreen for your skin type as well as some other skin care products you can incorporate into your daily skin care routine? See below for a few of our recs.

Sensitive skin is genetic and characterized by redness, dry patches, and easily irritated by skin care products—including laundry detergents, perfumes, etc.
Sensitive skin is often thinner, so blood vessels are closer to the skin's surface, hence the appearance of redness. The skin's natural barrier isn't functioning optimally, so it isn't as protective as it should be. This allows irritants, bacteria, and allergens to penetrate the skin easier.

Essentially, dry skin underproduces oil. It will have tiny pores all over the entire face and may appear smooth in texture. Dry skin types may also experience flakiness, itchiness, dullness, and even become irritated or pink from the dryness. Dry skin is usually consistent year-round and may become worse in cold weather. It's common for the entire body, face, and scalp to be dry as well.

Normal skin has the ideal balance of oil production. Not too dry, not too oily. Generally, this skin type may have a few enlarged pores but overall an even tone and smooth to the touch. Normal skin can typically tolerate an array of skin care products without being too bothered.

With combination skin, the face has areas both dry and oily. Pores are usually larger and produce more oil in some areas of the face like the chin, forehead, and nose, often referred to as the "t-zone."
The t-zone area usually becomes oily and shiny by mid to end of the day, while the cheeks tend to be dry. It's not unusual for this skin type to produce blackheads in the areas that make excess oil.

Oily skin tends to have larger pores throughout the entire face, including the cheek area. Because of this, it's sometimes referred to as having an "orange peel" appearance.
This skin type can look thick and tends to become easily congested with clogged pores and blackheads, and excess oil or shine.
